Advising Structure
ECU is comprised of 9 separate colleges with each having their own advising center. Additionally, the Major Advisement Program (undecided, academic difficulty, and partway home students) and University Studies have their own advising centers. Half of the advising centers are housed within their respective college buildings, while the rest are housed in a central location (Old Cafeteria Complex).
Students are assigned an academic advisor, based on their intended major, when they attend new student orientation. Transfer and Distance Education students who opt to participate an online orientation will be assigned an advisor upon completion. Most academic advisors are considered professional advisors – meaning that their primary role is to advise students. Two colleges have faculty advisors – individuals whose primary job is to teach, but they also advise a small number of students. Faculty advisors are typically employed in highly specialized fields.
